Dog with chains embedded in neck abandoned

Posted: Updated:
FLORENCE, Ariz. -

Who would abandon an injured dog? Pinal County Animal Care and Control officers are trying to figure that out.

Late Friday or early Saturday, someone left a female mixed-breed cattle dog in a holding pen outside a shelter in Florence.

The dog had a chain collar embedded in her neck. An emergency animal medical technician removed it, and the dog is doing well.

She's been placed in a foster home until her wounds heal, when she will go up for adoption.

Authorities are trying to determine who dropped the dog off, and whether the owner kept the dog in this condition. Anyone with information is asked to contact: AnimalCare@pinalcountyaz.gov.

To ensure that your pet's collar is not too tight, you should be able to comfortably fit 2 to 3 fingers under a dog's collar.
