A local teen is under arrest, accused of carjacking and robbing women he met online.
Bagged in broad daylight, Wayne County Sheriff Deputies arrested the16-year-old kid who seems to have been well trained in the school of hard knocks. He was wanted on armed robbery, assault and battery charges. We're not identifying the teen until he is officially charged.
Fox 2 cameras were rolling as deputies swarmed the bus stop on Grand River off of Wyoming. Their target, a teenager who may have been a romantic robber. Investigators say he arranged face to face meetings with women he met on Facebook and Instagram, then robbed and carjacked them.
Lachae Patterson noticed the teen moments before he was arrested, but had no clue what was coming next. "It was kind of surprising and it was kind of scary at the same time because we didn't know what was going on," she said.
Fugitive locator Paul Clay says the arrest is part of a larger sweep with some 40 suspects with outstanding warrants. "There are a lot of guys out here that we're trying to get off the streets that are wanted for numerous offenses," Clay said.
As for the teen cuffed today, people who live and work in the area are happy one less suspected thug is off the streets. "You never know what he did, he could've been in someone's house or anything so that's good to know they got him" one resident said.
