Weiner aide verbally trashes former intern, according to report

Posted: Updated:

A top aide to mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner angrily called a former campaign intern several lurid slurs, according to a report from Talking Points Memo.

Barbara Morgan, Weiner's communications director, referred to ex-intern Olivia Nuzzi as a "b----" and at least three other more profane slurs because the young woman, who only interned for her for four weeks, penned an insider account of the campaign. In a Daily News article, Nuzzi said that people joined the Weiner campaign just so they could get close to his wife, Huma Abedin, and hopefully hitch a ride on her wagon with her boss, Hillary Clinton.

Morgan told Talking Points Memo that Nuzzi was terrible at her job and tried to fire her.

"[Expletive] [expletive]. Nice [expletive] glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News," Morgan said, according to TPM. "Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again."

After the TPM story caught fire on social media, Morgan issued a statement saying she thought she was off the record.

"In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off the record conversation," Morgan said in the statement, according to Business Insider. "It was wrong and I am very sorry, which is what I said tonight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologize."

On Tuesday, Weiner's campaign released a video of the candidate saying that he would not quit the race despite his recent revelations that he continued to send lewd messages after resigning from Congress in 2011.

"They don't know New York, they don't know me," he says in the video. "Quit isn't the way we roll in New York City. We fight through tough things, we're a tough city."
