Salad Mix Identified As Source Of Stomach Bug Outbreak

Posted: Updated:

Pre-packaged salad has been linked to the source of a stomach bug outbreak in two states.

The Iowa Department of Health and the Nebraska Department of Health are both blaming this salad mix for sickening more than 200 people in both states.

Health officials say the stomach bug, known as cyclospora, has been found in salad mix, which includes iceberg and romaine lettuce, along with red cabbage and carrots.

Nearly 400 people across 15 states, including New Jersey, have been sickened as a result of the stomach bug.

But the CDC says it's not clear whether all of the illnesses are linked to a single source.

The investigation found that at least 80 percent of cyclospora patients in Iowa had eaten the salad mix.
