Man, Left In DEA Cell, Reaches Settlement

Posted: Updated:

A college student who spent four days locked up in a windowless cell has reached a four-million dollar settlement with the federal government.

Last year, 25-year old Daniel Chong was taken into custody during a DEA drug raid in San Diego. After questioning him, officials told him to stay put and said they'd be back to get him. But Chong says agents forgot about him and ignored his cries for help.

When they finally found him, he was severely dehydrated, and spent the next five days in the hospital.

The DEA has new policies, including daily inspections and cameras in cells.
