TCU's Pachall humbled, matured by time away

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - TCU senior quarterback Casey Pachall says he has matured and been really humbled after his time away from school last season to participate in a substance-abuse program.

In publicly addressing his situation for the first time Wednesday, Pachall says he was "actually very grateful" for what happened.

Pachall started the Horned Frogs' first four games last season, all victories, before he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and left school in October for a treatment program. He had admitted to police earlier last year that he smoked marijuana and failed a team-administered drug test.

Pachall returned to school last spring, and went through spring drills with the Frogs.

Coach Gary Patterson says it's a close competition between Pachall and sophomore Trevone Boykin for the starting job.
