Accident at Tireman and Plainview Accident at Tireman and Plainview
DETROIT (WJBK) -

It looked like an explosion at Tireman and Plainview in northwest Detroit.

Firefighters cut four young men out of a Suburban. A passenger in that vehicle was killed.

Detroit Police sources said the driver of the Suburban license was suspended.

Authorities said the driver was stopped several block away. When police got out of their cruiser, the Suburban bolted and was going between 70 and 80 miles per hour when it hit the intersection at Tireman and Plainview.

The speed limit in that area is only 25 miles per hour.

We were told the Suburban ran a stop sign and hit the SUV of an off-duty Detroit Police officer.

The Suburban then rolled violently into a white van. Two sisters, ages 33 and 29, standing outside that vehicle attending a birthday were injured. They were rushed to Sinai-Grace Hospital.

In all, seven people were injured and one person was killed. The deceased is a young man from Detroit.

All of the injured are in temporary serious condition.

Five vehicles were damaged, including the striking vehicle, two others that were occupied and two that were unoccupied and parked.

Detroit Police insist this was not a chase, and eyewitness accounts from where it all started confirmed that information.

Sources said police will ask the prosecutor to charge the driver of that Suburban with second-degree murder, a 15 year felony.
