Inspector impersonator strikes again in North Texas

Posted: Updated:

A man impersonating an inspector has struck again in North Texas.

The suspect description and routine the man uses matches two cases FOX4 previously reported on. Paul Edward Roberts is wanted by multiple local police agencies for thefts.

In this current spate of crimes, Roberts dresses up as a fire extinguisher inspector and steals the wallets and purses of employees while in the back areas of businesses.

A viewer contacted FOX4 saying the business she worked at, an Edible Arrangements storefront in Fairview, was hit on Wednesday by the same person she saw in a previous story.

FOX4 reported on Wednesday that Roberts is wanted in connection with similar thefts at a Smoothie King and tanning salon in the Rockwall area.

"He was very aggressive. Like right on through the door. He acted so official like he knew what he was doing that you really didn't question that he wasn't supposed to be here," said Anna Keller.

Keller said he moved her fire extinguished then left saying he needed a new bracket to mount it.

Ten minutes later she received a call from her credit card company asking if she tried to make a $500 dollar purchase at the Walmart on Exchange Parkway – just one exit down.

"I reached in my purse for my wallet, which is right in my office, and it wasn't in there," Keller said.
