Couple gets probation for beating, burning puppies

Posted: Updated:

A Tarrant County couple made a deal with prosecutors and got probation for pleading guilty to beating, burning and killing their puppies.

Melissa Woodard and Christopher Apala said they killed their three 5-week-old dogs because they couldn't afford to feed themselves, let alone their pets.

Apala got five years of probation and Woodard got three.

Both suspects admitted to using drugs, but said they did not do drugs on the day the dogs were killed.

Another dog in the home has been adopted.
