North site for stadium could mean long walk for fans

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Fans taking public transit could be in a long walk if the Atlanta Falcons build their new stadium on the proposed north site.

The team's original preferred site was next door to the Georgia Dome. However, negotiations have stalled with two churches that sit on that south site.

FOX 5's Morse Diggs tested the walking from the MARTA station to each of the proposed sites.

It took Morse about 5 minutes to get to the south site, and about 21 minutes to get to the north site.

City officials have expressed concern about the lack of public transportation options to the north site, which is located near Ivan Allen Boulevard.

While negotiations have broken down with the churches, it's not out of the realm of possibility that they could be revived.
