The wife and son of Dallas ISD superintendent Mike Miles are leaving Dallas and moving back to Colorado Springs
Miles said in a statement he and his wife hope to "insulate" their son from negative media attention that's "taken a toll on both him and my wife."
"It is a difficult decision, but we feel that our first responsibility as parents is to our son and we have to do what is best for him," Miles said in a statement.
Miles' wife and son will return to Colorado Springs by the end of the month so the seventh grader can start the new school year on time.
A DISD spokesman says the move is for one year, then the family will reevaluate.
Miles says he remains committed to serving the children and staff of Dallas ISD, but some are questioning that.
"If he's committed to his son, and he's willing to send him off, what is his commitment to the Dallas ISD students?" Rena Honea, Alliance-ATF, said. "The question has been asked many times today."
Miles has faced intense media scrutiny on a wide variety of issues since taking the job last summer.
Most recently he's the focus of an internal investigation following the resignation of his communications chief.
Results of that investigation are expected in two weeks.
