Tax free weekend is just days away. Consumer guy Steve Noviello has details on what's included.
The sales tax holiday is set for Aug. 9-11. Clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 are exempt from sales and use taxes, meaning shoppers can save about $8 on every $100.
But, Steve said consumers should pay close attention to price tags. A pair of jeans that cost $120 will still be taxed, but a $99 pair won't.
Things like backpacks and messenger bags are included in the exemption, but purses and briefcases are not. And, wearable items like baby clothes, ties, belts and sneakers are tax free, but accessories like wallets, necklaces and belt buckles are not.
Consumers can maximize their savings by looking for things that are already on sale.
Layaway purchases only qualify if are purchased and picked up during the tax free holiday.
