Carroll ISD to start the year with armed police officers

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHLAKE, Texas -

When school begins in a few weeks every campus in the Carroll Independent School District will have an armed police officer on duty.

The Southlake police chief briefed the board on the plan last night. Seven new officers have been hired for the program at all 11 campus.

It's a city program that compliments a security program the district already has in place. It is expected to cost around $750,000 per year.

The extra security is a response to last year's deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
