Sarah Murnaghan Celebrates 11th Birthday

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Little Sarah turned eleven today, and her extended family was on hand for the festivities.

When we first met Sarah Murnaghan back in June, it seemed like a real long shot that she would survive to celebrate her 11th birthday.

She was dying of cystic fibrosis and in desperate need of a double lung transplant, but because of her tender age, she was not eligible for placement on the adult donor list.

You know what happened next: a nationwide lobbying effort was followed by a court fight that ended with Sarah being placed on that adult list. She got her new lungs, and then another set when the first lungs failed.

Sarah's been improving ever since, with a few hiccups along the way. She is still under constant care at Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania.

Her mom has posted to Facebook plenty of new pictures and videos along the way to keep Sarah's many supporters apprised of her condition.

Just yesterday, mom posted news of her daughter's 11th birthday. Describing a party at the pediatric care unit playroom at CHOP, set for this afternoon.

Sarah's extended family was invited, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Mom said it would be the first time any of the kids had seen Sarah since the transplants.

Janet described her daughter as "my little warrior," and said Sarah is so excited.

Sarah's mom has promised to post new pictures and videos of the party. We'll share them with you as soon a they are up on Facebook.
