A self-proclaimed "family friendly" restaurant in Houston is banning children during nighttime hours.

La Fisheria, a seafood restaurant run by Mexican reality TV chef Aquiles Chavez, announced the new policy on its door and Facebook page.

"We are a family friendly restaurant, and we also respect all of our customers so we introduce this new policy to the restaurant," the post reads. "Thanks for your understanding."

All guests after 7 p.m. must now be over 8 years old.

Chavez told several news outlets his decision to change the policy was difficult, but customers have complained about too many screaming kids in the dining room.

Some people have criticized the idea. Chavez said his wife is among them. But most of the restaurant's Facebook fans seem to support it.

Under federal law, businesses have the right to refuse children and others around the country have already done so.
