Cedar Hill ISD's superintendent abruptly resigned Tuesday, just two weeks before the school year began.
Horace Williams said he made the agreement with the school board to step down so he could pursue other interests.
Williams served as CHISD superintendent for six years.
In a separate letter to the Cedar Hill community, Williams acknowledged "disagreements" with some during his time as superintendent, but didn't elaborate.
"A wise person once said that opportunities often come disguised as challenges," Williams wrote in the open letter. "Teamwork will be necessary to meet those challenges headon to best ensure that our children receive the highest quality education..."
CHISD's retired Chief Operations Officer Kim Lewis has been appointed interim superintendent by the school board while it looks for a new leader.
