Couple claims baby monitor hacked

Posted: Updated:

A Texas couple had a terrifying experience when they heard a strange voice coming from their 2-year-old daughter's room.

Marc and Lauren Gilbert of Houston went into their daughter Allyson's room on Aug. 10 to discover the voices they were wearing were coming from the baby monitor.

"He said, 'Wake up Allyson, you little [expletive],'" Marc Gilbert said.

He pulled the plug immediately and began doing research.

He believes someone took control of the camera, which was on his home's wireless network. That person was able to move it around and see his daughter's name on the wall.

Fortunately she didn't hear anything because she was born deaf.

"I felt like somebody broke into our house," Marc Gilbert said.

Now he wants to warn other parents about the danger.

"As a father I'm supposed to protect her against people like this. And so it's a little embarrassing to say the least, but it's not going to happen again," he said.

Home security experts say people can protect themselves from similar intrusion by doing research before making tech purchases, keeping software up to date and using strong passwords to secure devices and wireless networks.
