Hundreds say goodbye to fallen DeKalb officer

Posted: Updated:

Friends, colleagues and family members of a DeKalb County police officer said their last goodbyes to him on Friday.

Hundreds of mourners packed New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for the funeral of Officer Ivorie Klusmann.

Klusmann, 31, died after crashing while chasing down a suspect last weekend.

The rookie officer was remembered as a young man with a strong sense of right and wrong. Family members say that sense led him to a career in law enforcement.

"He was nice to everybody and tried to do the right things," said Joseph Woodridge, Klusmann's great uncle.

Woodridge said he drove in from New Orleans to attend the funeral. The great uncle remembered Klusmann as a kind boy who first pursued a career as a musician before becoming a police officer.

"It's a shame. He only was 31, had a couple of kids," said Woodridge.

A short time after the accident, police arrested Gregory Lee Harvey.  Investigators believe Harvey is the man the officer pursued after he fled a traffic stop. He is now charged with the officer's murder.
