Clayton State student shot near campus

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Police are investigating a shooting that sent a Clayton State University student to the hospital early Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the Clayton State University Police Department tells FOX 5 News that two individuals had arrived at the Clayton Station apartments just off campus around 1:45 a.m. The pair was returning home from work when they were surrounded by about 10 individuals they didn't know.

The victims tell police that shots were fired by one of the individuals in the groups and ended up striking the Clayton State student in the ankle.

They later found a second gunshot wound under his right arm. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and was listed in good condition Sunday evening.

Police believe the victims were not the intended targets, but rather caught a stray bullet from the group. The group scattered before police could arrive.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
