Judge awards 240 seized dogs to humane group

DENTON, Texas (AP) - A judge has decided 240 dogs living in foul conditions and lacking proper water will remain with the Humane Society of North Texas to be put up for adoption.

The Denton County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 1 raided a location after receiving complaints about the treatment of animals.

The Denton Record-Chronicle (http://bit.ly/14YuMMX ) reported Sunday that the animals originally were rescued by a group called Animal Guardians of America. The organization on Thursday relinquished rights to the animals in lieu of paying any fees.

Humane society official Shelly Meeks says urine and feces were everywhere on the property. Several cats were also rescued from the location near Celina.

No charges were immediately filed.
