Penn State Reaches Settlement With A Sandusky Victim

Posted: Updated:

Penn State has reached its first settlement with one of Jerry Sandusky's sex abuse victims. Many settlements like this are expected to follow.

"This is the beginning of the end of a sad saga for Penn State," says Attorney Tom Kline.

The first settlement in a civil suit against Penn State University has been reached in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case. After negotiations spanned close to a year, a 25 year old man, known as Victim Five, will receive millions of dollars.

"Here, Penn State wanted to and we succeeded in inking a deal which would allow the university to move forward and would allow my client to have some closure and finality," Attorney Kline.

This case is one of more than two dozen civil suits filed against Penn State University surrounding the former assistant football coach. The 69 year old Sandusky was convicted last year of 45 counts of sexual abuse. Victim Number 5 testified that when he was a young teenager, Sandusky exposed himself in a Penn state locker room.

"He was a young man who was 13 years old who was accosted in the shower just 6 months after the infamous Mike McQueery incident," says Attorney Kline.

Several other civil cases are close to being resolved. But the problems for the university are far from over. Penn state's ex-president and two former top school administrators were ordered to stand trial. They're charged with covering-up the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

Ex-president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and ex-athletic director Tim Curley face a number of charges including perjury, endangering the welfare of children, and conspiracy. All maintain their innocence.
