A dog is being nursed back to health after it was tied to a tree and left to die.
Lucky, a boxer mix just six to eight months old, is still emaciated, starved and weak after he was found Monday morning in north Oak Cliff.
He was tied to a tree with a water hose and had no food and no water nearby. Rescuers say the hose was tied in a knot and the dog was deliberately abandoned.
It's believed the dog's organs were about to start shutting down when he was found.
A woman visiting the woods heard a faint bark while on a walk and found Lucky. She contacted the rescue group and brought them out to save the dog.
"I can't just leave a living creature to die like that," Kaleigh Wetrich said.
Steve Basham of Apollo Rescue said Lucky has a good chance of surviving. Initial blood work tests came back good, he said.
The rescue group is now taking care of Lucky. Both Wetrich and Basham would like to see animal cruelty charges pressed, but investigators need witnesses to come forward to find the person responsible.
