Man wins suit against Carrollton police officer for excessive force

A man won a civil lawsuit against a Carrollton police officer for use of excessive force.

Jason Geils said he suffered a concussion and minor injuries after Officer Don Patin slammed him against a wall in a jail intake facility. Geils had been taken in on suspicion of DUI, but the charges were later dropped.

The excessive force incident was recorded on a surveillance camera.

Geils was awarded $80,000 plus attorney's fees in his suit against Patin.

"It's holding every police officer accountable for their actions," said Scott Palmer, Geils' lawyer.
