New donations may save church school supply giveaway

Posted: Updated:

A church school supply giveaway, spoiled by burglars, may happen after all.

The pastor of Calvary Philadelphia Baptist Church says he has heard from several people, foundations and companies who will make donations to replace items stolen by thieves. Pastor Joe Moore says he already has commitments for over a hundred back packs.  Moore says others have called to say they are rounding up donations to help.

Dallas police are investigating the break-in at the east Oak Cliff church which occurred sometime overnight Thursday. The burglars stole cash, candy from the youth ministry office and hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies.

Pastor Moore says if donations continue to come in, he is hopeful the church will be able to hold the school supply giveaway on Sunday immediately following morning church services.
