SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

2-year-old Damian Sutton was found severely beaten Tuesday, Aug. 20. With severe damage to his brain and spine, the boy continues to fight for his life at the Children's Hospital of Michigan.

VIDEO: Friends and loved ones held a vigil in his honor Friday night.

Meanwhile, his suspected abuser, Ronald Dimambro Jr., is behind bars with bond set at half a million dollars.  He is charged with first-degree child abuse. Dimambro was dating Damian's mother, Nikki Sutton, at the time of the alleged attack. Nikki was at work while Dimambro watched the child at his parent's home, where he is said to be living.

Dimambro's family has gone on the record saying, "We are grief stricken and numb over the recent events. Our focus, our thoughts, and all of our prayers are for Damian and that ha makes a full recovery."

Dimambro is due back in court Tuesday, Aug. 27.
