Fire finally out at Waxahachie recycling plant

Posted: Updated:
WAXAHACHIE, Texas -

Firefighters from Waxahachie and surrounding areas were finally able to extinguish a huge fire at Oak Cliff Recycling Sunday morning.  The fire was first reported just after 7pm Saturday evening.

A spokeswoman for the Waxahachie Fire Department says there have been no injuries and no evacuations. At least nine fire departments helped fight the blaze.

Owners of the plant worked with fire officials telling firemen  there were no hazardous materials on site.  One challenge for fire crews was the lack of a close water source.  Crews had to drive to the nearest fire hydrant, fill their trucks with water and then drive back to the scene of the fire.

The Oak Cliff Metals website indicates the plant buys iron, copper, brass, aluminum, cans, insulated wire and stainless steel.
