Security changes take effect at Cowboys game

Posted: Updated:

Despite some big changes to security at AT&T Stadium, getting into the game against the Cincinnati Bengals wasn't a problem for most Cowboys fans, especially women who had to ditch the big handbags.

"I wouldn't have brought it with me anyway because what do you do with it as you try to juggle drinks, cheering, and everything else," says Karen Kaufmann who was visiting from Maryland.

This is the first season the NFL is banning large opaque bags, even purses. Instead fans have to use clear plastic bags. One-gallon storage bags will be made available to fans unaware of the change. The team is also selling clear regulation bags with logos.

Small hand-sized clutches are allowed.  The league says the changes will hopefully prevent someone from bringing a weapon into the stadium or other area outside the security perimeter.

The change was announced in June and the Cowboys have been trying to get the word out ever since.
