Looking for love in all the wrong places? A group taking a twist on the singles scene is offering a new type of mixer for self-described nerds looking for romance.
"You think of them as these socially-awkward people, but they're not," said Kim Long. "There's a nerd niche."
From Christian Mingle and J-Date to Farmer's Only and Gluten-Free Singles, it seems there's a dating service catering to just about every niche group these days. Nerds at Heart is no different, organizing monthly themed mixers centered on board games and trivia.
"I think they facilitate conversation because you can talk about what's right in front of you and just have fun with it," Ashley Clayson told FOX 9.
Each event starts with an ice breaker to pair up couples, and the groups then shuffle between various games. Of course, the cocktails don't hurt when it comes to the flirting.
With less pressure than speed dating and in-person interaction instead of online guesswork, Long says the participants find more than a new crush. They also find friendships.
"It's just everyone coming and enjoying themselves and meeting new people," Long said.
Sunday's single mixer had a supernatural theme, including a "believe in magic" quiz, "truth is out there" trivia and the drink specials also followed the theme, with the Sasquatch and Loc Ness Monster cocktails up for grabs.
