Two sisters who live in Oak Cliff help make the VNA Meals On Wheels program a success in the southern part of town.
Annie McCoy is 65 and her sister Velma Spence is 58. Three days a week they deliver a nutritious meal to 17 clients who are homebound, low-income senior citizens.
Annie says they were raised to work hard and give back. Velma says they sometimes bring their grand kids; so they can learn about giving back and making like better for someone else.
The sister act spends time and visits with each client. Annie does the driving, Velma's in the passenger seat and they act as a team. It's really cute having them talk simultaneously about the benefits of being a volunteer. They don't get reimbursed for gas and they say that's not the point.
Delivery routes are always efficient and their benefit is knowing that for four years they've made a difference by giving a nutritious meal and a piece of their heart to a homebound senior.
