Driver pulled from wreckage after chase crash

Posted: Updated:
CARROLLTON, Texas -

A man who led Carrollton police on a chase ended up trapped in his SUV after crashing into a creek.

Officers tried to pull over the man along Interstate 35. When he did not stop they chased him.

The SUV hit utility poles near Luna Road and Trinity Valley. It landed in the water.

Firefighters had to work around the power lines to save the man.

"I heard a loud bang, louder than I normally her for trucks going over the bridge right here. A couple loud bangs and a scraping noise, so it startled me enough. So I got up from my desk and ran out here and that's about the same time I saw all the police officers," said Kurt Howell, a witness.

The driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Utility repairs will have part of the intersection closed Wednesday morning.
