Winner of Jersey Shore song contest announced

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

After The Reign, a six member band who's members hail from New Jersey, is the winner of the Jersey Shore Soundoff music contest.

The competition for the best Jersey Shore 'anthem' was aimed at promoting tourism and the ongoing recovery along the shore following superstorm Sandy.

The winning song, Jersey Strong, was written by band member John Strevens.

"It may have knocked us down but not for long, we're Jersey Strong…" goes the refrain.

More than 230 entries were submitted from residents all over the state.

"We are honored to be recognized by the people of New Jersey and Stronger than the Storm for our contribution to the recovery through the best way we know how- our music," said Strevens.  "Our song pays tribute to the hardships that everyone endured as well as the progress we have made as loud, proud New Jerseyans."

The band members all have day jobs restoring the shore.

After The Reign will be performing 'Jersey Strong' with the Spin Doctors at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Sept. 7.

"Having two bands with Jersey ties on one, legendary Garden State stage will truly be a night to remember down the shore," said Shannon Eis, spokesperson for Stronger Than The Storm.

Contestants had four weeks to submit songs online. Online voters and a celebrity panel picked the winner.

While the Stronger Than The Storm campaign already has a theme song, the contest gave people affected by Sandy a chance to create an anthem authentic to the state.
