The Talker: Are men's egos more fragile than women's?

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Are you happy when your wife scores a big life victory?

A study by the American Psychiatric Association says men, in general, are unhappy about it.

It can actually be something big or small that's said to make guys feel threatened - their wives getting a job promotion or a raise, winning a sporting event, getting an award, even something like hosting a great dinner party.

Men's egos are apparently quite fragile when it comes to this stuff.

Researchers say they don't enjoy their wives victories because they interpret them as failures on their own part.

Sort of a twisted way of looking at things - though the men are said to be doing it subconsciously - they don't mean to have that perspective.

Earlier studies suggested men feel threatened when their wives make more money than them.

What surprised psychiatrists in the new study is that the feeling applied even when women succeeded in things guys aren't even interested in doing, their egos are bruised feel any time a woman succeeds, no matter what they're succeeding in.

And it's not just American men. The study also looked at guys in the Netherlands which is typically viewed as more progressive about gender equality.
