Brief fire contained at train level of Atlanta airport

ATLANTA -

A brief fire at one of the concourses at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been contained, an airport spokesperson told FOX 5 Atlanta Tuesday morning.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries handling the incident, according to Hartsfield-Jackson spokesman Reese McCranie. Atlanta fire officials say they did not need to be transported to the hospital.

McCranie said the fire appeared to have been caused by a motor in an escalator. About 5:30 a.m., smoke started reaching into the train level of Concourse T. Airport officials began moving  passengers away from the area until the fire was contained.

While most normal operations had resumed at the airport by 6 a.m., passengers on the plane train were still being diverted from the train level at Concourse T.

"I believe operations (at the Concourse T train level) should resume shortly," McCranie said.
