Driver causes chain reaction wreck for Dallas police cars

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police said a driver caused a chain reaction crash involving three squad cars on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a driver tried to make an illegal left turn onto northbound Greenville Avenue from Mockingbird Lane. The driver behind that car was an off-duty police officer who stopped.

"Two civilian vehicles in the left lane, here, one getting ready to make a left turn going northbound on Greenville. The car behind it stopped, the first squad car stopped, the second squad car behind it stopped, the third car did not stop," said Dallas police Lt. Herbert Ashford.

The third officer hit the other squad car, which triggered the chain reaction. The officers were reportedly headed to a 911 hang up call on E. Mockingbird Lane.

The driver who started the chain reaction drove off, but police believe the driver will be located.
