Supervisor appeals termination for demolition mistakes

Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH, Texas -

A former Fort Worth city employee says he was unfairly singled out and fired for two homes being improperly torn down.

Ron Reed was the supervisor in the building inspection department. He was held responsible for the two mistakes earlier this year.

A small home on the same property as a burned home was mistakenly demolished. Then two days later in another neighborhood the wrong home was torn down.

"We're not certain the entire responsibility lies on Mr. Reed's doorstep," said Louis Papaliods, his attorney. "Mr. Reed feels like he acted appropriately within the scope of his responsibility and this is a big process that involves a lot of people and departments, and we don't know who else is involved in the city's investigation."

Reed was less than a year away from retirement. He is appealing his firing.
