2 more UTA fraternities suspended for underage drinking

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Texas -

The University of Texas Arlington has suspended two more fraternities for an investigation into reports of underage drinking.

Officials said Sigma Chi and Pi Kappa Alpha has been placed on interim suspension and will not be allowed to participate in any organizational activity on or off campus while the university investigates allegations of alcohol abuse by students under the age of 21.

Early this week the university placed the same restrictions on Sigma Phi Epsilon and Pi Kappa Phi.

All of the accusations stem from a report of a sexual assault that allegedly happened Saturday at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house. A young woman reported it after she was found unconscious in a dorm.

The male student she accused was suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

"UT Arlington values its fraternal organizations and the significant contributions and service they provide to the community, and is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment," the university said in a statement.
