Poll: Christie's popularity remains strong

Posted: Updated:

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's popularity remains strong even though a new poll shows those surveyed aren't happy with the way he's handling the economy and taxes.

Friday's Rutgers-Eagleton Poll finds 66% of registered voters surveyed approve of the job Christie is doing compared to 31% who don't, up six points from June.

The survey shows 42% approve of Christie's handling of the economy and jobs and 34% approve of his performance on taxes.

The Democrat running against Christie in November isn't benefiting from the discontent. The poll shows more than half of the voters still don't know or have an impression about Barbara Buono.

The survey of 814 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%age points.
