Scammer posing as Atlanta Gas Light employee

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, Ga. -

Atlanta Gas Light is warning customers about a man who is posing as an employee and attempting to gain access to customers' identities.

They are reporting that a man between 25 and 30 years old has been knocking on resident's doors in Marietta and Decatur. The man will claim to be able to lower their natural gas bills and asked residents to look at their gas bills. The man reportedly would get irritated when customers refused.

AGL advises that anyone representing Atlanta Gas Light or one of their contractors would have identification that they would be willing to present if asked and would never ask to see to a bill. Anyone wishing to verify if someone is a real employee should call their customer care center at 1-800-427-5463.

Anyone who believes they have had a visit as someone posing as an Atlanta Gas Light Employee is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.
