A robbery suspect is being held at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in critical condition after a shooting involving a Dallas police officer. Police say the shooting happened just before 2 o'clock Saturday morning in the 2800 block of Oak Lawn Avenue. Police say officers in plain clothes were patrolling to prevent vehicle break-ins when they saw a woman running from a vehicle in a parking lot, yelling for help. Then, officers noticed 31-year-old Bryan Branch holding up a man inside the same vehicle.
One officer approached the car and announced himself as a police officer. Police say Branch ran towards the officer with a gun drawn. "The officer, in fear for his life, drew his weapon, fired three shots, striking the suspect," said DPD officer Sheryl Scott. "The suspect was struck in the right side, but continued to try to evade the officer. Suspect Branch was apprehended as he collapsed."
Branch was taken to Parkland Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Branch is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. Police say the people inside the car were not injured.
