COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Six Flags Over Georgia broke ground on its latest attraction on Monday. The tropically-themed Hurricane Harbor Water Park will be the largest expansion in the park's history and is scheduled to open next summer.

Hurricane Harbor will completely transform the area formerly occupied by the Southern Star Amphitheater.

"Our entirely new water park inside of Six Flags Over Georgia will further support our goal of delivering of a world-class destination for all ages," said Park President Dale Kaetzel. "This multi-million dollar investment will be a 'must do' experience for anyone living in or visiting Metro Atlanta."

Hurricane Harbor is set to open in late May 2014 and will feature: an 800,000-gallon wave pool, a multi-slide tower and a "world's first" single-slide tower combining two extreme slide thrills.

There will also be an interactive children's water play area.It will also be free of charge with park admission.
