Detroit firefighter wins national anthem contest, to sing at Tigers game

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit firefighter Martin Rucker will sing at the Tigers game Saturday after is was announced that he won Comerica Bank's Home of the Brave National Anthem Singing Contest.

Rucker will also get 40 tickets to the game, and his station will earn a $10,000 grant from Comerica Bank.

Rucker is a 14-year veteran of the Detroit fire department. He's a fire engine operator.

Rucker stopped by The Nine on Friday to show off his singing skills. Click the video player to watch the interview.

Police officers and firefighters from southeastern Michigan submitted videos to the Comerica Cares Facebook page.

A panel of judges from the Tigers, the media and Comerica Bank narrowed the submissions to the top 10 for public voting. More than 15,000 votes were cast during the two-week public voting period.

Rucker finished with 4,008 votes.
