New Blood Test Could Detect Cancer

Posted: Updated:

A simple blood test could save lives, according to a new medical development. Doctors are working on a new blood test to detect cancer.

FOX Medical Contributor Joette Giovinco said the test would allow patients to get tested for cancer while getting their cholesterol monitored. Testing for this development called "IDH1" is happening right now in China. IDH1 would detect 86% of non-small cancer cells. The test would also screen patients for lung cancer.

Lung Cancer is the sixth most common cancer in non-smokers. 2 out of 3 non-smokers who get lung cancers are women, especially Asian women.

The test is currently going through test trials and will have to be approved by the FDA before it hits the marker.
