A man who led Phoenix Police on a chase through central Phoenix Wednesday night has been taken into custody.

Police say this all started about 5 p.m. when officers were trying to locate a suspect wanted in connection with aggravated assault-domestic violence.

The suspect reportedly had pointed a gun at his girlfriend some weeks back, and officers had been looking for him ever since. They located him at 5:15 at a gas station near Central Ave and Sunland.

Once he left his vehicle, officers attempted to contact him, but he took off and a pursuit ensued.

In fact, as he drove through the parking lot of the gas station, he drove directly towards an officer causing him to dive out of the way, according to Sgt. Steve Martos.

The man fled from police for over 30 minutes.

He drove into Tempe and was involved in a hit-and-run there. He then drove back west into Phoenix.

It finally came to an end near 7th Street and Thomas just after 6 p.m. The man rammed into gates near the canal, bailed out of the car and took off on foot into the neighborhood there.

"We heard a loud noise so we came out, that's my room right there," said witness Alicia Rubio.

"It's kinda of scary because he could have wrecked into her room, somebody was in there," said Jesus Delacruz.

He was eventually taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Ivan Trejo, 26.

Trejo is facing charges including aggravated assault-domestic violence, aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal damage, possession of marijuana, unlawful flight and resisting arrest.

Police say Trejo didn't have any weapons on him.
