Dallas police sergeant fired for withholding information

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police have fired an officer after an investigation determined he knew a murder suspect but didn't tell detectives.

Sgt. Carlton Barnes saw a bulletin about a capital murder suspect in Sept. 2011 and told another officer he knew him. However, Barnes did not tell detectives he knew the suspect until March 2013.

Barnes also lied to investigators in a sworn affidavit, resulting in a Tampering with a Governmental Record charge filed against him.

Barnes was hired by Dallas police in Sept. 2001.

Dallas police also fired a crime technician for failing to return to work after an extension for leave without pay was denied.
