Mom says teen bullied, beaten at middle school

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A Clayton County mother says her son is in the hospital with a concussion after she says he was bullied and beaten at Riverdale Middle School.

Charleia Price said that her 13-year-old son, Israel, was jumped by two students in a bathroom at Riverdale Middle School on Thursday. She said that the motive was clear.

"Bullying is an issue. Kids picking on other kids is an issue and no one pays attention," she said.

Price said that one student slammed her son's head into a brick wall while the other threatened the 13-year-old with profanity. She said that the school didn't call police or a school resource officer, and no charges have been filed.

"I think it was handled poorly, really." said Charleia Price.  "I can't believe there is only one school resource officer for multiple schools."

Price says she brought her three children to metro Atlanta to escape the violence of Cleveland. She says her hope was to find a safe environment with more opportunities.

Price said her son is telling the social worker at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite that he had been bullied by several students at school and that he did report the intimidation to teachers. She believes those words escalated to violence.

"He has a concussion, dealing with some memory loss…He's got some numbness in leg, so he is not walking on his own at all," Price said.

Clayton County Schools issued a statement saying, "This is an ongoing investigation. We have learned that the principal and teachers followed protocol."

The statement said that the contact between the students was a result of a verbal exchange that was initiated by the injured student.
