Five Nimitz HS students test positive for tuberculosis

Posted: Updated:

Five students at Nimitz High School in Irving have tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis.

Nearly 140 students and teachers were encouraged to be tested after one of the students tested positive for TB last spring.

The Dallas County Health Department offered the free and voluntary tests at the school earlier this week.

Irving ISD said the five students will undergo more tests to determine if they need medication. TB is contagious, but it can be treated and cured.

Irving ISD will not take any more action unless 30 percent of the testing pool returns positive results.
