White House reps. to meet with Detroit officials

Posted: Updated:

Next week representatives from the White House will visit Detroit and meet with Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, Gov. Rick Snyder, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and other leaders of major foundations. Sources tell Fox 2 the Obama administration is looking for concrete ways to support and fund the revitalization of Detroit.

Mayor Bing says he knows exactly where those federal dollars can have the biggest impact: "Blight and crime are the two biggest issues that we have to deal with. That all has to be centered into the neighborhoods."

While Detroit is the largest city ever to file for municipal bankruptcy, officials are not expecting a federal bailout but believe the city may see relief in the forms of grants and access to federal programs.
