CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

South Shore trains were temporarily delayed Wednesday morning after a train struck and killed a Michigan woman in northwest Indiana, authorities said.

The train, due to arrive in Chicago at 8:08 a.m. from South Bend, struck the woman near The Pines, Ind., about 6:30 a.m., according to John Parsons, spokesman for the South Shore. The Pines is located between Michigan City and Beverly Shores.

The Michigan woman, in her 50s, was dead on the scene, according to the Porter County Coroner's office. Her name was not being released Wednesday morning pending notification of her family.

The woman's death was an apparent suicide, according to the coroner's office.

Two rush hour trains—westbound trains 12 and 112—were delayed after the incident Wednesday morning, but all service has been restored as of 8:30 a.m. and trains are expected to run normally for midday service, Parsons said.
