Boy Scout trailer stolen from church parking lot

Posted: Updated:

A Marietta Boy Scout troop says a trailer load of camper gear was stolen from a church parking lot.

The trailer was parked in the lot of at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, which sponsors Marietta Troop 008.

The timing of the theft couldn't be worse; the troop is scheduled to go on its biggest campout of the year this weekend.

Troop leaders hope the thief will return the trailer after discovering that it doesn't contain much gear that has cash value.

"I think it was just an easy target from where we had it parked. It's a unmarked trailer, could have been full of anything," said Boy Scout leader Jim Srock.

Other scouting groups are stepping up to help make sure the Marietta troop doesn't miss the big campout.

"We are hosting a Cub Scout pack at a Boy Scout campout in Blairsville and we are expecting over 60 scouts and adults just for our group alone," Srock said.

The trailer had no markings; it was just a plain white trailer. Anyone who sees it is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department.
