Substitute teacher charged in sex case enters plea

Posted: Updated:

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- A substitute teacher in suburban Detroit who was charged after authorities say he had sexual contact with a girl who was under the age of 13 has entered a plea deal.

Court records show Andrew Howell, of Farmington Hills, pleaded no contest Wednesday to an assault charge. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing. A Nov. 1 sentencing is scheduled in Oakland County Circuit Court.

A message seeking comment Thursday to a lawyer for Howell.

Police said Howell, of Farmington Hills, was arrested in March and charged with criminal sexual conduct. The charge stemmed from what police said was an incident that occurred with a student during school hours March 19 at a Farmington Hills school.
